Dossika Dairy is an innovative project aimed making life a lot better for people who live in western Kenya.
“If a farmer increases milk production for example from 5 to 10 liters a day, he or she will find a guaranteed market. As a result, the farmer will definitely enjoy increased income. The private sector input in the project will make it very successful”, adds Joshua Machinga, CEO.
The dairy project is built on an innovative model. The dairy is farmer own- farmer managed as they are involved from the from grass to glass.
The project is improving the livelihood of smallholder farmers mostly located around Mt. Elgon. This project illustrates how investments in rural communities and family farming can be designed to deliver mutual value for farmers, businesses and society. It opens the way to new investment models, moving from impact investment to performance-driven models mixing public and private funding
Our Mission
Dossika Dairy operations are focused in the manufacture of milk and milk products. It shall lead the market in terms of quality and performance of its products and customer service.
Our Vision
Dossika Dairy is firmly committed to being the market leader in Kenya for milk and milk products, and to be the benchmark company in the industry.
Support to Farmers
The majority of our suppliers are small hold farmers and as such they do not have funds available to access the type of services that larger farms are able to obtain. To assist them, and help to ensure our milk supply for the future, we provide them with training (e.g. on milk handling), access to agrovets, machinery suppliers and artificial insemination companies, all of which are services that a small scale farmer would not normally have access to. We have also identified that small hold farmers often do not have access to refrigeration which makes it very difficult for them to cool their milk. Dossika Dairy is currently establishing satellite milk collection points for these farmers to help assure the quality of their milk for longer, leading to less wastage and greater profits for the farmer.
