"RAISING AWARENESS NOT MONEY"
We are always being asked, "How can I help?" or "I don’t have much money, but I have a lot of energy and passion for helping out. How can I direct this to give support to Common Ground for Africa?". Well, we've come up with an idea that should answer those questions. It won't take up much of your time but will certainly leave a lasting impact - Friends of Common Ground for Africa (CGA)!
The Friends of Common Ground for Africa programme is specifically designed to incorporate the large support base of our initiatives that is not associated with sponsorship or donations. The motto of being a friend of Common Ground for Africa is "raising awareness, not money". We understand that not everybody can support the initiatives in a financial capacity. While we have our very special sponsors and donors, we also have a multitude of dedicated and caring people who spread awareness about our initiatives and its mission.
For example, the Pathfinder Academy opened its doors to 23 very bright yet underprivileged students in 2002. We began with donations from Kilili Self help Project-USA, 3 staff members, and 3 classrooms. Ten years later and the school has grown to over 450 students, and over 36 local staff. This has been possible only due to word-of-mouth, and the awareness that has spread concerning the school and the fight against poverty.
As the need for accessible and affordable education, healthcare, and livelihood is a constant need, the support we depend on to keep our promises to the children, the families, and the community continues to grow. As much as we would love to, we do not have the resources to fly around the world and present our case to all the interested people who would love to know about our schools and the initiatives in our community. This is where you, the Friends, can help us with. We trust you to spread support for us. Not by raising money, but by raising awareness. In ten years, our school grew to enroll over 450 children...with your help, imagine what we can do in our community in another ten years?
Friends is a program that everyone will enjoy getting involved in. Even if you can’t visit us here in Kenya at the moment, there is still a lot you can do in your home country or even just at home!
Here are some of the opportunities we’re currently looking for help in:
We truly believe that word-of-mouth is such a powerful thing and Friends of Common Ground for Africa is designed just for that purpose. Anyone can become a Friend of Common Ground for Africa. A Friend can be a sponsor, a donor, or just someone who has the dedication and stamina to accept the responsibilities of the Friends program. While we may have some natural event-organizers amongst our Friends, we understand that most of our supporters are starting off simply with a good heart, great intentions, and a deep commitment to Common Ground for Africa. This is why we have a very supportive Friends network in place to support you as you are supporting us. Our network of Friends is always available for any questions, suggestions or updates.
