John Wanjala

_ John is a hardworking and talented student, performing in the top 10% of his class at Pathfinder Primary. His favorite subject at school is science, a subject in which he scored very highly on the most recent comprehensive exam. He strives to become an aeronautical engineer because he would like to improve air transport and reduce the number of plane crashes which is very high in Sub-Saharan Africa. He lists his father as his roll model because he is an engineer. John has a number of hobbies outside of the classroom including running, swimming, playing marbles and playing soccer. His favorite team is Chelsea and his favorite player is Drogba. His favorite meal is rice with beef because it is a special treat. He would like to travel to London and all over England if he could travel anywhere because he would like to continue his studies there, hopefully at Oxford University. John's father lives eight hours away in Nairobi and he doesn't often see him. He lives with his mother, two brothers and one sister. His mother is a nurse but doesn't earn sufficient money to feed and educate all four of her children. John's uncle, a teacher, assists when he is able but it is not frequently. He lists this inability to consistently pay school fees as his biggest problem at home. If he finds a sponsor, he will work very hard and would like to play soccer on the school team. If he can't find one right away, he says he will have to eventually find someone to pay or he won't be able to attend and will start working isntead. He would like to attend Lenana Boys High School.
