Mary Khisa

Mary is in first grade at Pathfinder Academy. She is seven years old. Her mother is ill and can’t work and her father works as a farmer whenever he can find work. As it is difficult to find farm work during non-harvest seasons and during the frequent droughts that affect Kenya, the family’s income is unstable and Mary’s father has a difficult time paying her school fees. Mary enjoys studying Kiswahili and English in school and wants to become a doctor. She enjoys going to Church on weekends with her family and playing games with her friends while she is not at school.
