Shem Ongwenyi

Picture
_ Shem is considered by many of his teachers to be the most talented and promising student at Pathfinder Primary. He scored a 403 on the most recent exams, a score that is good enough for him to be accepted at a national high school. His favorite subject is science - also his highest scoring subject. He aims at becoming an engineer because he wants to be able to think of an idea in his mind and then see the idea come to life when it is built in real life. Outside of school, Shem excels in volleyball and swimming, two activities that he would like to continue pursuing in high school. His favorite food is the traditional meal of ugali and fish. Shem looks up to President Obama as his roll model because he's a good leader and has done a lot of good for his country and the world. Shem states Japan as the place he would most like to travel to in the world because they have great engineers in Japan and he could develop his engineering skills there. Shem lives with his mother and father, neither of whom have a real job. They both work as migrant farmers when they can find work during harvest seasons, each earning about $1 a day. He has four sisters and one brother. He states starvation as their biggest problem at home. They often do not have enough food to eat. He says he would like to find a sponsor for high school because he needs to attend high school if he can reach his goal of becoming an engineer but his parents aren't able to pay the high school fees. He says if he can find a sponsor, he will work hard and will achieve his goals and if he can't find one, he will try to continue working to find one. He wishes to attend Lenana Boys High School.
