Shillah Wafula

Picture
_ Shillah is talented and sweet student with aspirations of becoming a lawyer. She does very well at Pathfinder Primary School, with grades in the top 10% of her class. Her favorite subject in school is mathematics. She says she wants to become a lawyer when she grows up because her aunt is a lawyer and she looks up to her aunt as her roll model. Aside from studying, Shillah enjoys going to church and singing - her favorite song is the Kenyan church song "Because of the Day". Her favorite food to eat is chips, and if she could travel anywhere in the world it would be the United States so that she could practice law there. When not boarding at Pathfinder, Shillah lives with her parents, her brother and her sister. Her mother cannot work because she is frequently ill and therefore cannot hold a consistent job and is too ill to work as a farmer. Shillah's father is a farmer. During harvest season, he goes from farm to farm looking for day work for which he is paid 100 shillings (about $1.20). Between harvest seasons, there is no work for such farmers. It is therefore impossible for her father to pay Shillah's and her siblings' school fees, which amount to 10 times his annual income. Shillah needs a sponsor for high school so that her fees are taken care of and therefore her father can put his modest earnings towards treating her mother's illness so that she can try to work in the future. She says that if she gets a sponsor, she will be so happy and will work as hard as she can to attain good grades. If she doesn't get a sponsor, she is not sure what she will do but will keep working hard to try to find a scholarship. She aims to attend Lenana Girls High School. Sponsor Shillah
